KUCHING (March 5): The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) seized smuggled goods worth RM4.85 million during an Op Taring Bravo operation in Bau on March 2.

Sarawak GOF commander SAC Lim Bak Phai said five local men, aged between 23 and 52, were arrested for allegedly being involved in the storage and smuggling of various goods without valid documents or permits.

“Inspections at the premises led to the seizure of 24,975kg of red onions, 3,383kg of cooking oil, 62,190kg of rice, 125 boxes of various medicines, and 16,080kg of frozen meat.

“Also seized were three lorries and three containers, bringing the total value of the confiscated items to about RM4.85 million,” he said in a statement.

Lim added that the raid was conducted jointly with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Customs Department, Health Ministry, Department of Veterinary Services, and other relevant agencies.

“The suspects and seized items have been handed over to the relevant agencies for further investigation and action under the applicable laws,” he added.

He also advised the public to comply with regulations and ensure all valid documents and permits are obtained before engaging in trading or transporting goods.
