MIRI, Oct 6: Around 500 residents from 153 households in Kampung Long Panai have been affected by a flood that has persisted since Oct 4, following heavy rainfall.
According to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Long Panai, the floodwaters reached a depth of two feet as of this morning. No evacuations have been necessary at this stage.
A preliminary report from the JKKK confirmed that although the flood continues, the solar power supply provided by Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) is still operational, with no signs of reaching dangerous levels.
“The flood began around 5pm, on Oct 4, but so far, we are monitoring the situation closely. No evacuation orders have been issued as the water levels remain stable for now,” said a representative from JKKK Kampung Long Panai.
As the villagers remain vigilant, the community is hoping for the flood water to recede soon.
Residents have been advised to stay alert and adhere to safety precautions as the situation continues to be monitored by local authorities. — DayakDaily
