MIRI (Dec 13): Several villages and a section of the main road leading to Marudi have been hit by floods following rising river levels caused by the convergence of king tides and heavy rainfall since Monday.

Civil Defence Force Marudi (APM Marudi) officer-in-charge Lt (PA) Mirwan Shah Masri said Jalan Kebun Nanas Marudi, the main access route from Miri to Marudi, remains passable to all types of vehicles as of 12pm today.

“Although water levels rose this morning and flooding occurred in several areas, the main road at Jalan Kebun Nanas is still safe for use, including by small vehicles,” he said in a statement.

He added that villages affected by the latest flooding in Marudi include Kampung Narum, Kampung Ridan, Kampung Dagang and Kampung Padang Kerbau.

However, as of 3pm on Saturday, he said, no temporary evacuation centres (PPS) had been opened.

He advised residents to remain vigilant, closely monitor water level trends and evacuate should conditions become unsafe.
