KUCHING (Nov 2): Former DAP Sarawak deputy chairman Leon Jimat Donald has applied to join Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) main component, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
According to him, his application was submitted to PBB Balai Ringin branch following the branch’s recent general meeting.
“Since resigning from DAP, I have not been actively involved in politics for more than three years. Now, I want to participate and contribute my services, and thus, I have decided to continue my political struggle together with PBB.
“By joining PBB, I believe it is an important step at contributing to the community in Sri Aman and shaping a better future for all.
“Politics often feels distant, yet it affects every aspect of our lives, from the education that our children receive to the healthcare our families depend on, and even the roads we walk on,” he said in a statement.
Leon added that what attracted him to join PBB were the discipline, transparency and commitment shown by the party, led by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He pointed out that the party’s focus and principle of ‘Sarawak First’ rekindled the political struggle in him.
“Joining a political party is not just about supporting policy; it is about engaging in dialogue, listening to multiple perspectives, and encouraging accountability.
“I look forward to connecting with like-minded individuals, learning from such experienced leaders, and most importantly, working with the community in Sri Aman,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to members of PBB Balai Ringin for being very kind and accepting of his membership, especially to the branch chairman Petrus Igat Mathius, who is also Political Secretary to the Premier.
Leon is a son of former three-term Sri Aman MP, the late Jimmy Donald. He had contested three times as DAP’s candidate in the Simanggang constituency while he was still a member of the party, the most recent being in 2021.
