KUCHING, May 25: Four semi-permanent houses were destroyed in a fire at Lorong 18 of RPR Batu Kawa Phase 1 today, although firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to a nearby fifth unit.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the emergency call was received at 11.49am regarding a fire involving four semi-permanent houses, which were completely destroyed at the upper levels while the lower portions suffered water damage during firefighting operations.
Personnel from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Batu Lintang) led by PBK I Kana Tawi spearheaded the response, supported by five firefighters from BBP Kota Sentosa.
Firefighters carried out suppression operations using water from nearby fire hydrants, with coordinated efforts conducted at both the front and rear of the affected area.
Firebreak measures were also implemented to stop the flames from spreading to adjacent structures.
“The fire was successfully brought under control following sustained operations with overhaul work carried out to eliminate any remaining hotspots and reduce the risk of reignition.
“Final inspections were also conducted at each affected unit to ensure the area was safe,” he said in a recent statement.
A total of 12 firefighters were deployed to the scene alongside assets comprising two Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) units and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.
No injuries or fatalities were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. — DayakDaily
