French delegation explores strategic investment, collab opportunities in Sarawak

KUCHING (March 11): A French delegation led by its Ambassador to Malaysia Marc Abensour visited Sarawak on a two-day mission to explore potential investment and collaboration opportunities in several strategic sectors.

According to a press statement, the sectors include aerospace, renewable energy, aviation manufacturing, oil and gas, as well as carbon capture technologies.

The delegation comprised Military Attaché Stefan Stefancic, Deputy Economic Counsellor Bouthaina Harfi, Business France head Jean-François Ambrosio, and Cultural Attaché Thierry d’Anna.

During the visit, the delegation met with several Sarawak agencies and stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the state’s investment landscape and strategic development priorities.

Discussions highlighted Sarawak’s growing position as a destination for sustainable and high-technology investments, supported by its renewable energy resources, industrial infrastructure and pro-investment policies.

The delegation first visited the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation, where they were received by chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Husain and general manager Rakayah Bujang.

They later held discussions with Petroleum Sarawak Berhad hosted by chairman Tan Sri Hamid Bugo and senior vice president Abang Arabi Abang Aimran.

The meeting explored opportunities in the oil and gas sector, including upstream and downstream activities as well as carbon capture technologies.

The visit concluded at InvestSarawak, where the delegation was received by chief executive officer Timothy Ong and AirBorneo Holdings Sdn Bhd advisor Bruno Navet.

During the session, Sarawak stakeholders presented the state’s development agenda under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030, which focuses on sustainable economic growth, renewable energy development and the expansion of the digital economy.
