MIRI (March 9): More women are encouraged to actively participate in community activities and equip themselves with new skills, so as to create more opportunities for themselves and their families.

This was stated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting in his speech at the Miri City Woman Caring Association’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Sunday.

“This association plays an important role in providing a supportive platform where women can share their life experiences, encourage each other and work together to help families in need.

“At the heart of the association is a warm and caring community, much like a big family, in which members can exchange ideas, support one another and find ways to assist those who need help,” said Ting in his speech, which was delivered by Councillor Kelvin Chia.

Ting also congratulated the association’s newly elected committee members led by chairperson Kapitan Chan Chai Ping who had maintained her position.

“I hope all members would continue to support and cooperate with this committee in organising and carrying out future activities.”

Back on the matter of gaining new skills, Ting encouraged the association leadership to continue holding more skill-based courses in the future so that more women, especially mothers, could learn new abilities, improve themselves and create more possibilities for their lives and those of their loved ones.
