KUCHING (March 10): Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has strongly denied a viral claim alleging that he had issued a statement regarding political cooperation with Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS).
He said the statement circulating online was fabricated and had never been issued by him.
“I strongly deny the allegations that have recently gone viral claiming that I had issued certain statements regarding political cooperation.
“Such statements were never made by me and are entirely untrue,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
Nanta, who is Works Minister, also expressed disappointment over the spread of what he described as false information by irresponsible parties.
“I am deeply disappointed with the actions of certain irresponsible parties who have spread false information, causing confusion among various parties,” he added.
He urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to verify facts before sharing information.
“Stop spreading unverified information. Please check the facts before sharing,” he said.
An image accompanying his post labelled the viral claim as ‘fake news’, referring to a graphic that alleged GPS had “no objections to cooperating with PAS”.
The graphic also carried purported remarks attributed to the GPS secretary-general suggesting the coalition did not prohibit cooperation with PAS.
