Haze forces Sept 24 closure of 108 Serian schools

KUCHING: All 108 schools in Serian district will be temporarily closed tomorrow (Sept 24) after the Air Pollutant Index (API) breached the 200 mark.

As of 10 pm tonight, Serian recorded an API reading of 214, placing air quality in the very unhealthy category.

The Sarawak Education Department said the closure takes effect following continuous monitoring of air quality conditions in the district.

Teaching and learning will continue through home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) throughout the closure period.

The department said the decision was made in accordance with Circular Letter No. 1 of 2019.
