SIBU (Sept 13): The Kanowit District Council, in collaboration with the Kanowit Parliamentary Service Centre, the National Unity Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, are organising this year’s Kanowit Festival 2024, set to run from Sept 20 to 22.
According to National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, the festival, which has been held since 2003, aligns with the ‘Ini Warisan Kita’ (This is Our Heritage) initiative introduced by his ministry as the main content of its flagship programme, ‘Kembara Perpaduan Malaysia Madani’.
This year’s Kanowit Festival, he added, would feature a variety of exciting activities such as the Kanowit Remote-Control Boat Challenge, a fun fair and a trade fair, Kanowit Power Boat Race, Rahmah Sales programme, agency exhibitions, the Kanowit Waterfront opening ceremony, and the Kanowit Festival Queen pageant.
Aaron, the MP for Kanowit, said the festival would not only celebrate history and traditions, but would also recognise the diverse cultures and contributions that had shaped the identity of Malaysians.
“From traditional dances to delicious local food, every element of the festival reflects the richness of our unique culture.
“By appreciating cultural diversity, we can strengthen unity and peace in our society,” he said in a statement.
Aaron also called upon everyone to continue fostering the spirit of appreciating and preserving their cultural heritage, and to strive to live in harmony by embracing and respecting the diversity around them. — Bernama
