BINTANGOR (March 2): Organisation of events involving community groups is one of the most effective platforms of fostering unity and strengthening social harmony.

In pointing this out, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said such programmes would not only help build closer relationships among members of the community, but could also provide opportunities to discuss more activities for the coming year.

Citing the Deng Clan Bintangor Association as an example, Ding described the successful organisation of its Chinese New Year luncheon as highlighting community’s enthusiasm, harmony and good family values.

“Associations like the Deng Clan play an important role in preserving cultural heritage, customs and family values, and are the pillars of a strong community,” he said when officiating at the luncheon on Sunday.

Adding on, Ding said his attendance at the event reflected his continued commitment to supporting the efforts by the Chinese community associations in his constituency, and also Sarawak as a whole.

Later, the assemblyman announced an allocation of RM10,000 from his Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to support the association’s ongoing activities.

“We hope this contribution would be fully utilised to further strengthen the role of the association as a platform for community unity and to enhance relationships between the younger generation and the elderly,” he said.

Among those present were Sarawak Deng Association patron Datuk David Teng, organising chairman Teng Ung Woo, Meradong District Officer Wee Teck Min and Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering.
