KUCHING (Oct 29): Hundreds of invited guests are expected at the ‘50th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between Malaysia and China’ dinner taking place here on Nov 8.
The guests include state Cabinet members, local dignitaries, consuls from various countries in Kuching, community and business leaders and delegations from abroad
The delegations from abroad comprise representatives from the Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation-Malaysian Returned Overseas Chinese Association; Jiangsu University of Science and Technology China; Malaysia-China Friendship Association Sabah; Brunei-China Friendship Association; and Kalimantan-Tiongkok Friendship Association.
“Together, they will celebrate the enduring friendship between Malaysia and China,” said the Sarawak-China Friendship Association (SCFA) in a statement yesterday.
SCFA said a photo exhibition showcasing significant historical images will also be held in conjunction with the forthcoming dinner, which also marks the 30th Anniversary of the China Consulate General in Kuching.
It added that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be the guest of honour for the event.
There will also be an award ceremony for a short video contest commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, along with a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony on friendly exchanges and cooperation.
Representatives from Sabah, Brunei and Kalimantan will be invited to jointly sign this memorandum.
China’s Consul General in Kuching Xing Weiping has been invited to the dinner, and he will jointly launch the exhibition with SCFA president Datuk Wee Kok Tiong.
After the dinner, the photo exhibition will be relocated to Farley Shopping Mall from Nov 11 to 13, offering the local community an opportunity to explore and learn about the history of Malaysia and China’s friendship.
