SIBU (Oct 15): The installation of LED streetlights at all the main roads in Pelawan constituency has reached completion.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Sarawak Datuk Michael Tiang said a total of 234 LED streetlights were installed at a cost of RM271,800 through  Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) grant for Pelawan this year.

The streetlights were installed at Jalan Teng Chin Hua, Jalan Ling Kai Cheng, Jalan Wong Soon Kai and Jalan Wawasan.

“Those are the main roads in my area, and I allocated the fund for the project to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

“This is to ensure that we have clearer and brighter road conditions for all road users, and also increase the safety of road users,” he told reporters when met after the symbolic handing-over of the completed project today.

Tiang, the assemblyman for Pelawan, said with the success of this project, he was looking into installing LED streetlights at the protocol roads, and in this respect, he would have a discussion with the Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu on the proposal.

“This is my next move. This time, I came up with the funds for SMC to install the LED streetlights. If JKR agrees, I will provide JKR with the RTP fund for the installation of LED lights along the protocol roads,” he added.

Tiang said he might also look into installing LED streetlights at the residential areas and feeder roads.
