KUCHING: Jap Soon Hung has claimed his second gold medal in the discus throw, setting an impressive new record of 21.07 metres

Jap, who hails from here, surpassed his own previous record of 20.86 metres at the Para SUKMA in Perak in 2018.

Jap won gold with 21.07 metres, in second place was Sabah’s Freddy Waldie with 20.44 metres and in third place Muhamad Khairi Military with 18.45 metres.

“I’ve been training for over a year, fully focused on making a new mark,” he told the media at the Sarawak Stadium today.

Jap’s triumph in the F54 (wheelchair) discus throw follows his earlier success in shot put with a distance 8.22 metres, making this a memorable achievement in his athletic career.

While Jap aimed to dominate all his events, he acknowledged missing out on one gold medal due to tough competition.

“I targetted gold in every event, but one opponent proved to be a strong challenge,” said the 39-year-old athlete who won a silver for javelin on Wednesday (Sept 25).

He dedicated his victory to Sarawak, praising the relentless support from the state.

“This win is for my beloved Sarawak, thanks to the government for their assistance,” he said.

He aims to join the national team to represent Malaysia at the 2025 ASEAN Para Games in Thailand.
