JCI Damai to hold K-Pop dance contest on Sept 1

KUCHING (Aug 26): Junior Chamber International (JCI) Damai is hosting their ‘Be a Star K-Pop Dance Concert Competition 2024’ at the Satok Ballroom of Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here on Sept 1, starting from noon.

The organiser is targeting an audience of 1,200 attendees after receiving encouraging responses from past years’ dance competitions.

“This year marks the third edition of the competition, and we have 30 groups totallingapproximately 200 dancers who have come from Indonesia, Peninsula Malaysia, Miri, Sibu, Bintulu and Kuching to compete.

“We’re excited to see such a diverse group of participants showcasing their talents on our stage,” organising chairman Kelby Than told a press conference yesterday.

The international judges who will be evaluating the contestants are South Korea’s Yeojin, Thailand’s Ritthithep Saisuwan, and Indonesia’s Natya Shina.

During the event, merchandise booths and food stalls will also be set up, promising a carnival-like and festive atmosphere.

Moreover, Than revealed that the international judges will be conducting a dance workshop at Star Studio Kuching here on Aug 31 for interested and budding dancers to learn from experts in the industry.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang, who was also present at the press conference, lauded the dance competition as a celebration of talent, culture, and unity.

Also present was JCI Damai local president Roy Tiong.
