KUCHING (Sept 13): Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kuching recently hosted JCI Sustainable Day 2024 at AEON Mall here, aimed at raising awareness of sustainable living.

In a statement, JCI Kuching said the focus of the Sustainable Day is on reducing single-use plastic, and to encourage the public to avoid using plastic bottles.

A key highlight of the event was the children’s colouring contest, which centred around the message of ‘Say No To Plastic’.

The children’s colouring contest, partnered with D Art House, was divided into two categories.

Adjudged first-place winners of Category A and Category B were Brandon Chan Yu Chen and Avery Tin, respectively.

In second place were Michelle (Category A) and Adlina Hermi (Category B), while third place went to Eileen Tan Chee Xuan (Category A) and Nur Khaira (Category B).

The event organising chairperson Janice Gan said the contest helped instil the message of environmental responsibility among the young generation.

“The winners of the colouring contest, which carried the theme of ‘Say No to Plastic,’ impressed the judges with their creative interpretation of sustainable living and environmental preservation,” she said.

JCI also partnered with Borneo Medical Centre, 2A Optical and Optimax Eye Specialist to conduct various health-related initiatives for the public, such as blood donation drives, medical health checks, eye examinations and oral health screenings.

Also present were Kuching South City Council mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, JCI Kuching president Jervis Jong and JCI Malaysia National vice president Jordan Bong.
