KOTA SAMARAHAN (Oct 28): Hock Seng Lee (HSL) has launched its first high-rise living project, Jigsaw, strategically located opposite the Kuching International Airport (KIA).
From the outset, the group set its sights on elevating apartment living in East Malaysia by partnering with renowned architects from the region and Kuala Lumpur.
The design brief focuses on creating a unique, high-quality residence with all corner units, realistic sizes informed by market feasibility, ample parking, quiet internal spaces, and resort-inspired amenities.
HSL managing director Datuk Paul Yu is all praise about the concept of having all units as corner units, hailing it an ‘engineering marvel’.
“The architects cleverly tilted each unit and offset the floor plate every two floors to achieve this unique design. This means more privacy and better value for the residents,” he said in a statement.
Following a competitive pitching process, HSL has selected Nicholas Ling of Konzepte Asia and Lateral Design – a Sarawakian renowned for his work on Kuala Lumpur’s Pavilion malls – to lead the project.
Ling has collaborated with Penangite architect William Khoo of Design Network Architects in realising an innovative design that not only met, but surpassed HSL’s vision.
Adding on, Yu was enthusiastic about the newly-opened Jigsaw sales gallery at La Promenade Mall here, featuring a fully furnished, three-bedroom mock-up unit for potential buyers to experience the development in person.
The interior of the mock-up unit, designed by IDC Architects, reflects the high standard of HSL’s developments.
IDC Architects previously designed the acclaimed ‘Convertible House’ show unit at La Promenade.
“Jigsaw’s construction is progressing well, with the basement completed and the superstructure at level three,” Yu said.
Jigsaw’s sales tagline, ‘Find Your Fit — S, M, L, XL’, showcases the variety of available unit sizes, ranging from ‘Studio’ to ‘Medium’, ‘Large’, and the‘XL’ duplex penthouses on Level 9 and Level 10, with sizes spanning 434 square feet to 2,068 square feet.
More than 60 per cent of Jigsaw’s units are family-sized three-bedroom condos, ranging from 1,018 square feet to 1,163 square feet.
According to Ling, the building design achieves a harmonious balance between form and function.
“The building’s look is highly conceptual, and we have married this with efficient and practical interior layouts. This is made possible by a skilled team of engineers and builders.
“Moreover, all car parks are located underground, offering residents a nearly car-free ground floor, complete with two receptions, two lift lobbies, and facilities that evoke a resort-like feel,” he said.
Jigsaw marks HSL’s first high-rise condominium open for sale, following the announcement of Langit Citadines Kuching, which combines hotel and luxury residential units.
Planning for Jigsaw began in 2018, with construction commencing late last year.
HSL’s engineers collaborated with window specialists from China to install high-grade double-glazed windows – a first in East Malaysia – meant to provide superior sound and heat insulation.
Prices for Jigsaw units range from RM313,000 to approximately RM1.4 million, with HSL offering three levels of furnishing: ‘Basic +’, ‘Standard’, and ‘Designer’.
In his remarks, senior property development general manager Tay Chiok Kee highlighted HSL’s commitment of ‘creating homes, rather than investment properties’.
“Many of our own staff members live in our developments, reflecting our commitment to building multi-generational homes that endure,” he said.
