KUCHING, May 20: Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the Works Department Sarawak has been entrusted with the implementation of 267 state-funded
projects worth RM31.30 billion.
According to the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, these projects encompass the essential pillars of modern infrastructure, comprising 172 road projects; 37 bridge projects; 40 building projects; 14 riverine structure projects; and four airport projects.
Progress on these initiatives are as follows: 74 projects completed worth RM4.8 billion; 124 projects currently under construction costing
RM20.3 billion; 24 projects at tender stage costing RM4.1 billion; and 45 projects at the pre-contract stage amounting RM2.1 billion.
“The construction of mega bridge projects across Sarawak marks a significant milestone in our journey towards greater connectivity, inclusive development, and economic transformation. These iconic infrastructure projects are more than just physical links, they represent the Sarawak Government’s commitment under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to improve accessibility, stimulate regional growth and uplift the quality of life for rakyat throughout Sarawak,” said Uggah when delivering his ministerial winding up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.
He also took the opportunity to announce that JKR Sarawak has completed 10 mega bridges.
On the 122 bridges linking ex-timber roads under Rural Bridge Transformation Programme (RBTP), Uggah reported that four bridges have been completed; 52 bridges are under construction; 11 bridges at tender stage while 55 bridges at pre-contract stage.
Uggah who is also Deputy Premier said the construction of these bridges reflects Sarawak’s progress and our commitment to modernising transport.
“They help Rakyat to stay connected, reflecting our vision for a united and well-connected Sarawak,” said Uggah.
He said JKR Sarawak is presently managing the implementation of 597 projects worth RM4.62 billion under six development agencies. These include: 91 projects under Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) valued at RM456.42 million; 33 projects under Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA) valued at RM916.29 million; 248 projects under Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) valued at RM681.17 million; 35 projects under Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) valued at RM704.40 million; 168 projects under Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) valued at RM678.79 million; and 22 projects under Mid-Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA) valued at RM1.186 billion.
The status of these projects is as follows: 156 have been completed; 130 are under construction; 38 are at tender stage; and 273 are at a pre-contract stage.
Meanwhile, Highland Development Agency (HDA) is constructing the Miri–Marudi–Mulu (Kuala Melinau) and Long Panai–Long Lama Road Project, costing RM3.8 billion, which was launched in November 2025.
“Upon completion, the project will significantly reduce time travel between Miri and Marudi from 1 hour 40 minutes to approximately 30 minutes, while travel time between Marudi and Mulu will take 90 minutes.
“As part of efforts to speed up the implementation of the project, two Kick-Off Projects (KOP) involving Package 1 (Miri–Marudi Road) and Package 2 (Marudi–Mulu Road) were launched on Dec 15, 2025 and April 13, 2026 respectively,” said Uggah who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman (GPS-PBB) —DayakDaily
