KUCHING (March 4): Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shien has dismissed claims that he has failed to bring development to the Julau parliamentary constituency, saying millions of ringgit in allocations have been secured for various projects in the area since he was elected.
In a Facebook post written in Iban, the Julau MP said he often heard accusations that he was unable to deliver development to the constituency, but stressed that federal government records could serve as proof of the allocations obtained.
According to him, such accussations often come from his opponents during election season.
Sng said projects implemented so far include the construction of a new clinic, upgrading of water pipes, new roads, installation of telecommunication towers and ATM machines, as well as the building of new schools.
He added that numerous other projects had also been carried out, including longhouse housing initiatives.
“‘Aku yakin, ila aku agi ulih mai maioh agi pemansang ngagai Parlimen Julau’ (I am confident that I can bring even more development to the Julau parliamentary constituency),” he said.
The Facebook post came with a link to a news report by ‘Ruai Berita Iban’, which mentioned that the federal government has approved a total allocation of RM186.86 million for the implementation of 117 development projects in Julau from 2018 to 2026.
The report cited a reply by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud to a question by Sng in the Dewan Rakyat.
It added that 71 projects were implemented by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), 15 by the Public Works Department Malaysia, six by the Sarawak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), and 25 by other ministries or agencies.
