KAPIT, Aug 25: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi will channel assistance worth between RM5,000 and RM10,000 to every school affected by floods in his constituency.
In a Facebook post today, he stated that he is closely monitoring the flood situation in Kapit including the flood which has recently damaged Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Bena at Sungai Sut here.
According to information conveyed to him by his political secretary Ambrose Abong Bugek who had visited the area on Thursday (Aug 22), the Kapit Division Community Welfare Department (JKM) has channeled clean water supply to the flood victims in Kapit including the affected school.
“I have requested my team (Kapit Parliamentary Constituency Service Centre) to continue monitoring the flood situation on the affected schools and areas as well as channel immediate assistance.
“I will channel aid between RM5,000 and RM10,000 through the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of each school affected by the flood. This amount will be determined according to the level of damage to the school involved.
“I was also made to understand that the flood situation in the school involved has receded and cleaning work is being actively carried out,” he said.
He also noted that the school is evaluating the property damage before the matter is handed over to the Sarawak State Education Department.
“I call on all residents, teachers and students affected by the flood to obey all instructions from the authorities to ensure the safety of all parties,” he added.
According to a recent report by New Sarawak Tribune, SK Nanga Bena principal Edwin Lang Nanyang has appealed for assistance from the public and relevant agencies to help not only to clean the school but also to replace essential items for students, such as uniforms and books, which were destroyed by the flood.
On Aug 22, 47 individuals, including 33 dormitory students and 14 teachers and staff, were evacuated to higher ground as a result of the flash flood at the school. — DayakDaily
