Kuching cops investigate viral road rage brawl at roundabout near Padungan

KUCHING (Aug 31): The police have received two reports on an alleged road rage brawl near the that occurred at the side of the Sri Aman roundabout near Padungan here on Friday, which had gone viral on social media.

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed this, saying that the reports were made at the Sekama police station at 2.53pm.

“Acting on information received, a team from Kuching District Police Headquarters met and conducted an investigation against the two individuals.

“Further investigation found that the report was linked to a 43-second viral video from a social media site.

“The video is related to a brawl involving two local men on Jalan Padungan on Aug 30 around 2.10pm,” he said in a statement today.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to six months or a fine of up to RM1,000 or both if found guilty.

As such, Mohd Farhan seeks cooperation from the public to come forward and channel information related to the incident by calling the Kuching district police control center at 082-244444 or go to any nearby police station.

“The public can also directly contact the investigating officer of the case Inspector Delvin Goh Dzul at 014-9080039,” he said.

He also reminded the public not to take arbitrary action in the event of an unwanted incident.

“Any traffic offense must be reported to the police for action to be taken according to existing laws.

“Strict action will be taken against those who take actions beyond the limits of the law,” added Farhan.
