KUCHING (Sept 11): La Promenade Mall’s exciting and fun-filled Oktoberfest is back again this year starting from Sept 12 to Oct 6.

According to a press release, the annual event marks the mall’s third celebration where it will be collaborating with What About Kuching (WAK).

The festival promises to be 50 per cent larger, featuring an improved layout, additional seating, and an even wider selection of food and beverages.

La Promenade’s Oktoberfest will light up every Thursday to Sunday, with live music performances each night.

In a new twist, the festival will also extend into the night with after-parties hosted in partnership with top drink vendors, ensuring the fun continues long after the main events.

Returning to the stage are the festival’s most beloved bands, including Mozaik, On Strings, Time Signature, and others.

Mozaik lead vocalist Dell Lawrence said this is the third year the band will be performing at the festival.

“It has always been a highlight for us and the crowds there were just wonderful. The atmosphere, the setup – everything comes together to create an unforgettable experience,” he said.

The band’s drummer Alex Ang said the success of live music depended on the environment, from the sound system to the lighting.

“At La Promenade’s Oktoberfest, it’s more than just a party — it’s a celebration of community,” he said.

La Promenade’s event coordinator Stephen Sunny said when it comes to audio, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach.

“Every band has unique needs, and we tailor our setup accordingly. That’s why we work with skilled audio engineer Emily Voong, who fine-tunes the sound quality each night.

“Together, we all take pride in delivering an exceptional auditory experience,” he said.

La Promenade’s Oktoberfest, held along the bustling Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, was first launched in 2022 shortly after Hock Seng Lee (HSL) established its flagship property development.

The festival was an instant hit, attracting more visitors than available seating on opening night.

HSL security manager Charles Lee vividly recalled how everyone in the team worked quickly to get tables and chairs as guests continued to pour in.

“Despite the stress, it was an exhilarating experience. Last year’s event was even bigger, and this year, we’re taking it to the next level,” he said.

This year, the festival will feature over two dozen food vendors, and the mall’s newest tenant, Iced Bar, will offer unique cocktails like a series of specially infused gin and tonics.

Car exhibits from Subaru, Proton and more will also feature, as well as promotional showcases from HSL’s property team.

Last year’s Oktoberfest was a blast with great beer, lively music, and amazing dishes from the mall’s in-house tenants.

Attendees will also get a sneak peek at Jigsaw, HSL’s first condo project, and visitors can join guided tours of the exclusive 200-acre La Promenade gated residences.

Additionally, HSL will unveil new phases of the highly anticipated Vista Industrial Park.

“Our success lies in creating family-friendly, secure, and meticulously organised events. While ‘fun’ is our theme for Oktoberfest, we also prioritise safety, with increased security and an enhanced cleaning team,” said Lee.
