Sarawak lawn bowlers celebrate after the medal presentation.

KUCHING (Sept 24): Lawn bowlers added two gold medals to the Sarawak contingent today. Ahmad Bashirun Ismail and Nischal Nischolas Bujang secured the first gold in the Open Pairs B6 category while Norhasfalinda Hamdan won the Women’s Singles B3 category.

Speaking to the media, Ahmad Bashirun expressed his joy in winning on home soil.

“Last time, we lost so we were determined to make a comeback on our home ground and emerge as champions. This is my second Para Sukma, with the first in 2022, but I didn’t win back then while I never imagined I would win gold this time.

“At the final bowl, my heart was racing, but I was overjoyed when we managed to defeat our opponents,” he recalled.

He then joined Nischal Nischolas in dedicating their victory to their coach and team manager.

Meanwhile, Norhasfalinda Hamdan shared a similar story of rebounding strongly for her first ever gold medal after her disppointment at the 2022 Para Sukma held in KL.

“I fought hard because two years ago, I only managed to get a silver. This year, I wanted to prove that I’m among the best. Previously, I participated in athletics, so this is my first gold in lawn bowls,” she said.

Apart from the two golds, Sarawak also secured three silver medals and one bronze in other events.
