MIRI (Feb 1): The Miri Hospital Blood Bank needs public support to maintain its blood stock in view of the upcoming Chinese New Year and Ramadan, said Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

The Senadin assemblyman described the replenishing of blood stock as “unusually slow” since the start of the year, saying he believes this could be due to the approaching festive period and fasting month.

“Therefore, there is a crucial need for early preparation to ensure sufficient stock for emergencies and patient needs,” he said when met at a blood donation drive organised by Fully Group of Companies here yesterday.

Lee, who is state Transport Minister, expressed his appreciation to Fully Group for working together with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) to organise the event, which also included an organ donation pledge campaign.

He further revealed that the company had contributed RM10,000 to MRC Miri to support the initiative, calling it a commendable effort.

“With the growing number of patients and increasing demand for blood, cooperation from organisations, companies, and the wider community is vital.

“Through strong collaboration with society, I am confident we can meet the demand,” he said.

Lee also thanked Mirians for their continued generosity and willingness to bleed for a good cause, stressing that every donation can help save lives.
