KUCHING (Dec 13): The Lingga Regatta 2025, which will conclude tomorrow (Dec 14), has successfully highlighted both the uniqueness of the traditional water sports and the potential of the Lingga District as a tourist destination, according to Sri Aman Resident Mahra Salleh.

This year’s event has recorded participation from neighbouring Brunei, adding an international dimension.

“This regatta will certainly further strengthen the unity and harmony that has long prevailed in our society,” said Mahra who is the organising committee’s advisor.

“This event will certainly be able to further strengthen the unity and harmony that has long prevailed in our society,” he said in a statement.

The main event, the ‘Battle of the Titans’, once again featured ‘River Kings’ from across Sarawak competing for the ‘King of the Titans’ title and a cash prize of RM30,000.

Highlighting the goal of establishing the regatta as a major state tourism event, Mahra noted several concurrent development projects in Lingga District.

These include Lingga Waterfront Phase 2, the Lingga River Bridge connecting Lingga and Sebuyau, and projects under the Sri Aman Development Agency (Sada) such as the Banting-Lingga Road, community-based tourism infrastructure, terminals and jetties in the Gunung Lesong area, and the Seduku Benak Recreational Park.

Pointing out Sada’s crucial role, Mahra pledged continued support for the agency’s efforts.

“Upon their completion, these projects will significantly improve accessibility for locals and visitors from Kuching, Samarahan, and Betong divisions.

“These infrastructure facilities will provide more alternative routes for travellers, particularly during festive seasons and school holidays.”

He expressed hope that the Lingga Regatta 2025 would act as a catalyst for community-based tourism growth and open new economic opportunities for locals.

Among the activities lined up for this year’s event included fishing competitions, darts, sports, karaoke, Miss Regatta Lingga, and a ‘Battle of The Band’.
