Local staff urged to leverage learning opportunities at ISCA conference

MULU: Local staff participating in the 2024 International Showcave Association (ISCA) conference are encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunity to learn from international experts in the field of cave exploration and park management.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala said the conference offers a unique platform for local staff to gain invaluable knowledge and establish professional networks.

“Not only can they share their own expertise and experiences, but they can also learn, build relationships, and network with distinguished experts in cave exploration and management. This will undoubtedly benefit both parties,” he said.

He made these remarks in his welcoming address at the opening ceremony of the conference, held at Mulu Marriot Resort and Spa here today (Sept 30).

Gerawat, who is also the Mulu assemblyman, pointed out that Sarawak continually strives to align itself with international standards.

He urged local staff to embrace the opportunity to learn from the visiting experts, whether in the scientific aspects of cave exploration or in the practical day-to-day management of the park and caves.

“In Sarawak, we aim to be more than just ‘village champions’; our goal is to stand among international players. We aspire to be among the best, and this conference provides our local staff with a valuable opportunity to establish connections and gain insights from global leaders in this industry,” he added.

During the opening ceremony, Gerawat also presented minor rural project funds to Mulu District Office and Village Development and Security Committee Long Terawan for their Terawan Mulu team participating in upcoming Sarawak Regatta.
