SIBU, May 9: A lorry driver has died after allegedly being struck with a wooden object during a workplace altercation involving colleagues at a transport company in Sungai Merah on Wednesday (May ^).
In a TVS news, Sibu District Police chief ACP Azari Miskon said following the 53-year-old victim’s death, police have reclassified the case from Section 326 of the Penal Code to Section 302 for murder.
He said the incident occurred around 9am at a premises in Lorong Ding Lik Kong 12, Sungai Merah.
“Preliminary investigations found that the altercation is believed to have stemmed from a dispute over lorry parking arrangements.
“The suspect is believed to have used a wooden object to strike the victim on the head, causing him to collapse unconscious,” he said in a statement today.
The victim was rushed to Sibu Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead at 2pm on May 8.
Azari said a 47-year-old male suspect, also a lorry driver, has been remanded for six days until May 14 to assist investigations.
He added that a urine screening on the suspect returned negative for drugs.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled to be carried out at Sibu Hospital on May 10. — DayakDaily
