M’sia 2nd most powerful passport globally with S’pore while ahead of US, UK, Canada

KUCHING, Sept 29: The Malaysian passport is now ranked second globally in The Passport Index’s’ ‘Global Passport Power Rank 2026’.

According to the ranking, Malaysia shares the spot with Singapore, while the United Arab Emirates was ranked first.

This puts Malaysia ahead of several advanced economies, including Spain (third) and Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, and Norway, which were among the 16 countries in fourth place.

In addition, Malaysia also placed above the United Kingdom, which ranked seventh, Canada and New Zealand at eighth place, and the United States of America at tenth place.

In a Facebook post, the Immigration Department said this reflects the strength and international acceptance of the Malaysian passport.

“Based on the ranking, Malaysian passport holders have access to 175 destinations, comprising 129 visa-free destinations and 46 destinations with visa-on-arrival, while 23 destinations require a visa,” said the department.

In last year’s edition of the ranking, Malaysia placed third, sharing the spot with 17 other countries. — DayakDaily
