Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the KM STAPA vessel, owned by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), was on fire.

“The blaze was intense, particularly in the second roof section, and ultimately destroyed around 40 per cent of the vessel,” he said in a statement today.

Henry added that firefighters extinguished the fire using the RECEO approach, deploying two 400-foot hose lines with four jets from an open water source to conduct both defensive and offensive manoeuvres until the fire was fully put out.

The operation concluded after ensuring the safety of the site and no remaining source of ignition.

“The cause of the incident and the extent of the losses are under investigation,” he added. — DayakDaily
