BINTULU (March 2): Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with a battery theft at a house along Jalan Durian Burung here.
Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspect was picked up in town at around 4.20pm on Feb 25.
“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had targeted batteries in residential areas. He admitted to stealing two batteries from a house in Jalan Durian Burung,” he said.
Nixon said checks also showed the suspect is a repeat offender with nine prior criminal records related to drug offences in the Bintulu and Sibu.
He has since been remaded to assist investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Police are also investigating his possible involvement in other theft cases.
