KUCHING, May 25: A man was found dead at a food premises at an open-air market along Jalan Merdeka in Sarikei last Friday (May 22) after collapsing from his chair.

Sarikei district police chief Supt Aswandy Anis said based on preliminary reports, the victim was believed to have fallen asleep at one of the tables at 4am.

According to a shop owner, the man suddenly fell from the chair, which prompted emergency services to be contacted.

He was then checked on by medical officers, who confirmed that he had died.

“Initial investigations found no criminal elements, and the case has been classified as sudden death.

“The body has been brought to Sarikei Hospital for a post-mortem and further investigation, and the victim’s next of kin have been identified and informed about the incident,” he said in a statement.

He also advised the public not to speculate on the case which could hinder police investigation. — DayakDaily
