SIBU (Sept 3): A man is feared drowned after he went missing while bathing in the river at Nanga Semah in Daro today.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak operations centre, in a statement, said the man was identified as Raya Adam, 45, from Rumah Ibok, Nanga Semah in Daro.

“We received a call at 5.15pm.

“It was made known that the man and his family from the same longhouse had gone to the paddy field to conduct a prayer ceremony.

“At around 8am, the victim went to a nearby river to bathe. At 9am, his wife went to the river to look for him, but she could not find him – she feared that he might have drowned.

“Villagers undertook a search in the area but they failed to locate him,” said Bomba.

It added that after a discussion with the police, the search and rescue (SAR) operation would be set up today, taking into the consideration the distance involved.

“The location is about a two-hour journey by boat from Bintangor Bomba station.

“Furthermore, the cloudy weather and strong river currents are posing danger to the safety of SAR members,” it said.
