SIBU (Sept 30): A 25-year-old man was today fined RM2,000 in default one month in prison by the Magistrates’ Court here for punching a man at a police station.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi convicted Alexson Luyoh Jenuang, 25, from Sungai Baoh Burak on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 90 of the Police Act 1967, which is punishable under Section 94 of the same Act.

The Section provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or up to one year in jail, or both upon conviction.

Alexson settled the fine.

He committed the offence on Sept 7 around 6.30pm at Sibu Central police station.

Based on the facts of the case, the 35-year-old complainant was at the station to lodge a report following an earlier disagreement with Alexson at a shop in Lorong Tong Sang 1B here.

Alexson suddenly punched the complainant in the face, causing him to fall and sustain swollen lips.

This led to Alexson’s immediate arrest.

Insp Kumareswaran Murugan handled the prosecution, while Alexson did not have legal representation.
