Man in Kuching gets seven months’ jail for possessing meth

KUCHING (Aug 14): A 26-year-old man was sentenced to seven months in jail by the Magistrates’ Court here today for possessing 0.28 grammes of methamphetamine two years ago.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence against Khairul Ikhwan Jasni after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.

The Section carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment up to five years or both, upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, police arrested Khairul at the sidewalk of Bangunan Taman Sri Sarawak here at around 2.50pm on April 19, 2022, on suspicion of n drug-related activity.

Further inspection found a transparent plastic packet containing crystallised substance in the front of his pants.

A chemist report dated June 23, 2022, confirmed that the substance was 0.28 grammes of methamphetamine.

The case was prosecuted by ASP Arman Ibrahim while Khairul was unrepresented by legal counsel.
