Man in Sibu jailed five months for stealing

SIBU (Sept 3): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a 32-year-old man to five months jail for stealing from a local supermarket.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi passed the sentence after Mazuwan Majidi pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

The Section provides for imprisonment up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Mazuwan was caught red-handedby the supermarket staff for stealing four cans of milk powder, a packet of 1.4kg laundry detergent, one bottle of 680ml shampoo and one bottle of 300ml hair conditioner from the supermarket on Aug 28 at 11am.

He left the premises without paying for the items, causing losses of RM460 to the supermarket.

His jail sentence is to run from the date of his arrest on Aug 28.

Inspector Kumareswaran Murugan prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel.
