Man killed, three injured after car crashes into drain

SERIAN: A 24-year-old man was killed while three others, including a three-year-old girl, were injured following an accident near Kampung Sabal Tapang along Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching last night (Sept 27).

The deceased was identified as Derick Kiew Chee Fan, who was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The three injured victims comprised a 23-year-old woman, a three-year-old girl and another adult man whose details were not immediately available.

It is understood that the victims were travelling in a Toyota Vios before it skidded off the road and crashed into a roadside drain.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call at around 9.50pm.

Upon arrival, they found all four victims had already been removed from the vehicle by members of the public.

Those injured were transported to the hospital for further treatment. The extent of their injuries were not immediately known.

Meanwhile, Kiew’s body was later handed over to police for further actions.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 12.10am.
