SIBU, Jan 30: A 40-year-old man fell victim to a cryptocurrency investment scam, losing RM94,247 in the process, according to Sibu OCPD Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili.
Zulkipli revealed today that the victim’s ordeal began on Aug 16, 2023, when he encountered an investment scheme by a group named Accerx on Facebook.
“After clicking on the link, he was added to the Accerx investment WhatsApp group, managed by an individual named David,” Zulkipli stated.
The suspect, going by the name David, provided information about the investment, persuading the victim to invest in cryptocurrency shares.
Subsequently, the victim made investment payments in multiple stages as instructed by the suspect, expecting promised profits.
“Between November 2023 and January 2024, the victim deposited a total of RM94,247 in five transactions into bank accounts belonging to local companies,” Zulkipli elaborated.
Upon checking his Accerx account, the victim discovered an accumulated profit of USD721,922.93 (RM3,407,476.22) between the specified period.
However, despite the reported profit, the victim was unable to withdraw the accumulated funds from the investment at the time of the report.
Zulkipli confirmed that the case is under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
