KUCHING (Sept 17): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a man to one day in prison and fined him RM3,500 in default four months’ jail for assaulting an acquaintance with a piece of wood last week.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan convicted Airwandy Kusin, 43, on his own guilty to a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
The Section provides for a prison sentence of up to 10 years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments upon conviction.
Airwandy assaulted a 38-year-old man on Sept 11 at around 10am in Kampung Bako Lot, Jalan Haruan.
The facts of the case revealed that while the victim was asleep in the living room of a friend’s house, Airwandy struck him in the face with a piece of wood.
The victim later lodged a police report, which led to Airwandy’s arrest.
The investigation revealed that Airwandy intentionally injured the victim, and the incident was witnessed by another man.
A police lineup saw the victim identify Airwandy, while medical reports from Sarawak General Hospital confirmed the injuries sustained by the victim.
It is understood that Airwandy attacked the victim due to dissatisfaction over accusations of stealing a fish.
ASP Arman Ibrahim handled the prosecution, while Airwandy did not have legal representation.
