KUCHING (Sept 12): A man was fined RM3,500 in default six months’ jail after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court here today to damaging a car belonging to another man.
Alemon Achong, 40, made the plea before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali after the charge of committing mischief, framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, was read to him.
The Section carries imprisonment of between one and five years, or a fine or both, upon conviction.
The accused, together with four others still at large, was charged with damaging a car belonging to a 55-year-old man in front of a premises in MJC Batu Kawa here at around 10pm on Sept 5, 2024.
The facts of the case stated that the car owner’s son was reversing the vehicle when a masked individual approached and kicked the licence plate, causing it to break.
A second unknown individual then showed up and kicked the door of the car, causing a dent.
Following a police report filed by the car owner, who estimated the damage to his car at RM250, police arrested Alemon on Sept 7.
An investigation found that the accused was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
ASP Arman Ibrahim prosecuted, while Alemon was unrepresented by counsel.
