SIBU (Sept 17): This year’s division-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at Sibu Islamic Complex recorded a participation of a total of 4,235 people representing 48 contingents.
Led by the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the procession kicked off at 7am yesterday.
Those joining the parade were Sibu Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, Temenggung Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce Tuanku Mohamad and Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili.
The contingents were divided into Category A for institutions of higher education, skills centres and secondary schools; Category B for primary schools; Category C for uniformed bodies; Category D for government departments, agencies and statutory bodies; Category E for mosques and suraus; Category F for clubs, associations and organisations; and Category G for private firms, companies and financial institutions.
SK Abang Ali was adjudged as the best ‘Mega Contingent’, while Kumpulan Sanyan took home the ‘Best Overall Selawat’ titles.
In the ‘Best Banner’ competition for Category A, the winning contingent was University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), with those from SMK Methodist and SMK Deshon finishing as runners-up.
In Category B, the winner was SK Jalan Deshon, with SK Bandaran Sibu No 3 and SK Abang Ali placing second and third, respectively.
In Category C, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department came out tops, followed by Sibu Central Prisons and Sibu Zone Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) at second and third places, resepctively.
Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department Sibu was the best contingent in Category D, followed by the teams from Sibu Land and Survey Department and SMC.
In Category E, Masjid Darul Istiqamah took first place, Masjid Darul Halim second place, and Masjid An-Nur, third.
In Category F, the winner was Sarawak Federation of Women’s Associations Sibu, while the respective runners-up were Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation (Perkim) and the Malaysian Islamic Dakwah and Welfare Organisation (Pekida) of Simpang Tiga Bandar Sibu.
In Category G, the winner was Kumpulan Sanyan, with Sarawak Energy Bhd following behind.
