KUCHING (Aug 15): The ongoing Kuching Festival 2024 is expected to meet the target of receiving over one million visitors, said Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

Wee said this follows the record number of visitors at 1.113 million at last year’s edition, and the local council looks forward to maintaining the record this year.

“The weather has been fine throughout this festival and although some days there were drizzling and rains, the overall situation is okay.

“There are a lot of athletes coming in for the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) so we cannot predict how big the crowd will be from this Friday to Sunday,” said Wee during a press conference held at MBKS headquarters here yesterday.

Wee remarked that Kuching Festival was never just about the food fair as the council has been taking various initiatives to beautify the surrounding areas of the festival’s venue, including enhancing the park with creative lighting.

Besides, Wee said the council is anticipating about 11,000 people to take part in the Kuching Festival’s Mayor Walk event, scheduled to be held on the last day of the festival (Sunday), and registration was open for an additional 1,000 applicants yesterday.

Also taking place during the press conference was lucky draws to choose 40 winners for the upcoming Mayor’s Walk, who will each receive five coupons for Chagee drinks.
