KUCHING (Aug 25): The recently concluded Kuching Festival Food Fair 2024 set a new visitor record at 1,151,495, marking an increase of 3.5 per cent compared to last year, said Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
The Kuching South mayor said the 3.5 per cent increase translated to approximately 37,751 additional visitors.
“Even though unpromising weather happened during this year’s Kuching Festival Food Fair, both locals and travellers thronged the festival despite the heavy downpour,” he said during his Facebook live session ‘Shall WEE Talk’ yesterday.
According to Wee, the number of daily visitors ranged between 20,000 and 30,000 on the rainy days throughout the festival period.
He said although the total number of visitors reached a new high, the record of the highest daily visitors remained unchallenged.
“On Aug 19 last year, the highest number of daily visitors was 93,981 while the day that recorded the most number of daily visitors this year was on Aug 3, with 79,962 visitors,” he said.
He added that the total number of visitors for Kuching Festival Food Fair 2023 and 2022 was 1,113,744 and 1,130,000, respectively.
On another note, Wee encouraged individuals who have yet to settle their overparking coupons to do so by Sept 30, to enjoy a 50 per cent discount.
He said this discount is being offered in conjunction with this year’s Kuching Festival.
He cautioned that the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) would not hesitate to take legal action against those who failed to settle the payment by the end of next month.
