MERADONG (March 5): Ten projects approved under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) are set to strengthen educational facilities, houses of worship and community infrastructure in the Meradong state constituency.
Following the approvals, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing conducted a working visit to several project sites on Tuesday to discuss implementation details with technical officers.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, all projects in the constituency are now placed under the supervision of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarikei Division.
Among the key projects are the construction of a new parking area at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanah Putih costing RM50,000; the building of a covered structure at Tadika Methodist Bintangor (RM200,000), and drainage and facility upgrading works at SJKC Ming Tee (RM50,000).
Upgrading works were also approved for facilities at Masjid Al-Falah Sungai Gemuan costing RM60,000, as well as the construction and improvement of multi-purpose rooms at several longhouses, including Rumah Panjang Jawi, Rumah Panjang Grinang Sungai Mador and Rumah Panjang Vicky Skim B Meradong.
At the same time, the safety and comfort of school communities will be enhanced through projects to upgrade fencing and facilities at SJKC Tong Hua and SJKC Min Daik, as well as facility upgrading works at SK Sungai Mador.
Ding said the RTP projects go beyond physical infrastructure upgrades and represent a long-term investment in the well-being of the community.
“The improved drainage systems, sturdier school fences and comfortable multi-purpose spaces will enhance safety, empower community activities and create a positive impact on future generations,” he said.
He added that rural development will remain a priority agenda in line with the Sarawak government’s development policy, which emphasises balanced growth between urban and rural areas.
