KUCHING (Aug 17): The Meteorological Department of Malaysia (MetMalaysia) has predicted no rain tonight for Kuching city, where the Malaysia Games (Sukma) XXI opening ceremony is scheduled for 8pm at the Sarawak Stadium here.
This is according to a special weather forecast for Sukma XXI from Aug 17-21 released by MetMalaysia Kuching branch yesterday on the department’s official website.
The special weather forecast is meant for nine divisions, namely Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Mukah, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.
“Apart from Kuching, the Samarahan, Serian, Betong and Mukah divisions will also be expecting a dry night today. However, rainy weather is expected in Sri Aman, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri,” it said.
This afternoon, all nine divisions except Miri can expect thunderstorms.
In addition, MetMalaysia Kuching said thunderstorms are forecasted to hit all nine divisions in the afternoon throughout the Aug 17-21 period.
For Aug 18, only Kuching and Miri will see a dry morning while the remaining divisions can expect rain. At night, the agency has predicted no rain for all divisions except Miri.
For Aug 19, rain is expected in the morning for all nine divisions while at night, rainy weather has been forecasted for only Bintulu and Miri.
On Aug 20 and 21, rain is expected in the morning for Kuching, Samarahan, Betong and Mukah while the other divisions can enjoy sunny weather.
On the night of Aug 20, the Mukah, Sibu and Bintulu divisions will see rain while on the night of Aug 21, rain is also expected in Bintulu and Miri.
