MetMalaysia: Limbang, Telang Usan and Marudi issued Level 1 heatwave warning

KUCHING (Sept 8): Limbang, Telang Usan and Marudi districts have been issued with a Level 1 (alert) heatwave warning by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) as of 4pm today.

In the latest heatwave status posted on its website, MetMalaysia also listed Pitas in Sabah as another district issued with the same warning, while there was none in the Peninsula.

A Level 1 alert is issued when temperatures reach between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.

An orange alert, or Level 2 warning, is issued when temperatures reach between 37 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius for three days in a row.

A red alert is issued when temperatures soar past 40 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days, indicating an extreme heatwave.

MetMalaysia in its weekly weather forecast for Sarawak said isolated thunderstorms over inland areas are expected from Sept 9-14.

For the Kuching, MetMalaysia’s weekly forecast said isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected especially in the afternoon and night.

Meanwhile, the Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in all districts in Sarawak were recorded between good and moderate for the whole of today (Sept 8).

Kuching and Samarahan, which had unhealthy API readings on Friday, recorded good API readings of 39 and 30 respectively as of 7pm.
