KUCHING, 4 Oct: Micro-welfare entrepreneurs under the Sarawak Department of Community Welfare (JKMS) recorded cumulative sales of RM7.92 million for the period January to August 2026.
Sarawak's Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the total included sales reported throughMonthly sales report(MSR) and sales promotion of the entrepreneur concerned.
"Every micro-entrepreneur will report the total monthly sales (Monthly sales reportEach one of them. During the period January to August 2026, total sales collected through MSR as well as promotional sales were RM7,921,366", he said.
He said this while addressing the 2026 Micro Excellence Entrepreneur Awards ceremony at MetroCity Event Centre (MCEC), here today.
In the same development, Fatimah explained, as many as 123 people or 32 percent of entrepreneurs were able to be laid off by September 2026.
"By 2026, the target for new entrepreneurs across Sarawak is 350 people. However, by September 2026 252 people or 72 percent were eligible for grants respectively.
"As of that date, 123 people or 32 percent of successful entrepreneurs have been fired", he said.
According to him, the JKMS Economic Development Programme is being implemented through the granting of a Wellbest Entrepreneur Grant up to a maximum of RM5,000 in equipment form to target groups or healthy and productive households.
Entrepreneurs who receive grants are also given two-year guidance, in addition to being required to take courses according to established modules and encouraged to participate in sales activities.
From 2021 to September 2026, a total of 2,192 entrepreneurs received grants with an overall allocation of RM10.92 million, while 929 people or 43 per cent of them successfully developed as Wellbest Entrepreneurs.
Fatimah said that the success of the programme should not be judged based solely on financial returns, but also taking into account participants' ability to improve socio-economic status of families and self-reliance.
He also urged the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment of Sarawak to open more opportunities for Economic Development Program officials as well as Micro-Welfare Entrepreneurs to take courses and exposure programs at home and abroad.
