MIRI (March 10): The Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS) is an initiative that reflects Sarawak government’s effort of ensuring that the vulnerable groups are not left behind.
Households with monthly income of RM5,000 and below are eligible for this programme.
In highlighting this, Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had emphasised about ‘not wanting any Sarawakian to go without food on the table’.
“Through initiatives like SKAS, the government wants to ensure that our people are able to meet their basic food needs,” she said in her speech for the ‘Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026’ here on Monday.
The festive-season contribution from Welfare Department (JKM) involved the channelling of RM100 each to 150 recipients, while Dynasty Hotel sponsored food items worth over RM150.
In her remarks, Fatimah expressed deep appreciation to Dynasty Hotel for doing the charity programme together with the JKM every festive season – Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak – fo 24 years now.
Meanwhile, Dynasty Hotel managing director Tony Pui said the festive charity giveaway stood as its ‘small way’ of assisting those in need, providing them the much-needed moral support.
“We, as a caring organisation, always inculcate the spirit of generosity, caring and giving in our staff.
“We strive, in one way or another, to help the unfortunate people of Miri community.
“Our thanks to all our business associates and friends from all walks of life,” said Pui.
