MIRI (July 25): Sarawak’s very own fashion designer Dato Tom Abang Saufi will feature at the Miri Arts Festival 2024 (MAF24) art gallery, taking place at Pullman Miri Waterfront lobby from Aug 1 to 4.

Tom Abang Saufi is a celebrated designer, who is renowned for her innovative and culturally-inspired designs.

“With a strong emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendly materials, she masterfully blends traditional Malaysian elements with contemporary fashion trends, creating distinctive and stylish products for the global market.

“A leading force in the Malaysian fashion industry for over 30 years, Dato Tom Abang Saufi had dressed numerous royalties from countries, such as Japan, Sweden, Abu Dhabi and Malaysia,” said MAF24 spokesperson Zul Baba Noor.

He added the designer’s collections harmoniously merge the old with the new and the traditional with the contemporary, making traditional elements more accessible and acceptable in the context of global trends.

Another artist not to be missed at the art gallery is Tiz Zaqyah, a well-known Malaysian celebrity and actress.

“Fondly known as Tizzy, while she had made headlines in the local silver screen and television dramas, not many knew about painting being one of her many natural talents; MAF24 will be the big public debut to introduce her art pieces,” said Zul.

Tizzy was a self-taught artist whose creative journey began with childhood doodles on her living room walls, supported by her encouraging parents.

While she initially pursued acting successfully, her passion for art remained steadfast. During the tranquillity of the Covid-19 pandemic era, she reignited her artistic fervour, exploring music production and delving into the world of colours and emotions as a synesthetic.

“Tizzy’s vibrant artworks serve as a reflection of the beauty and depth she perceives and feels in the world around her, offering a genuine expression from her heart to yours.

“Through her presence on social media and engagement with the art community, she found connections with fellow creatives worldwide, fostering a sense of belonging and drawing inspiration during challenging times.

“Her artistic journey has led her to new horizons, from venturing into the world of NFTs to becoming a member of prestigious art communities like the IBEX art insider’s group,” disclosed Zul.

MAF24 is organised by AX International Event and Communications Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS), supported by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism Malaysia (Motac), Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP), Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Miri City Council (MCC), Pullman Miri Waterfront Hotel and Miri Times Square.
