MIRI (Oct 9): Police here have crippled two cable theft syndicates with the arrest of nine individuals on Oct 4 and Oct 7.
District police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects, aged between 18 and 46, were arrested by personnel from the district’s Criminal Investigation Department.
“Among the individuals arrested, one was the owner of premises buying stolen items,” he said in a press statement last night.
Alexson disclosed that from Jan 1 until Oct 7 this year, the police here resolved 32 out of 36 cable theft cases, which were investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.
“During this period, a total of 57 individuals were arrested to facilitate investigation into cable theft incidents in Miri,” he said.
