ADVERTISE HERE
MIRI (Sept 27): The Magistrates’ Court here today sentenced a man to two months in prison and fined him RM3,500 in default two months’ jail for threatening to kill another man.
During sentencing, Magistrate Sandy Yvette Freddy also took into account Safuan Suboh’s two previous criminal records involving similar offences.
The 48-year-old from Kampung Haji Wahed was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to seven years in prison, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, Safuan made death threats towards Syazwann Affnan Jurimee, 29, with the intention of intimidation.
He committed the offence at 7.45am on Sept 21 at a house in the village.
In mitigation, Safuan, who was unrepresented by legal counsel, appealed for a light sentence considering that he is married and has six dependent children.
He said he was also recently discharged from Miri Hospital for a medical issue.
Insp Mudzilawati Abdul Rahman carried out the prosecution.
